amber

Amber is: fossilized, hardened resin of ancient tree sap. Baltic amber is derived from a species of pine trees present in Poland 60 million years ago that has no living representatives today. Amber was one of the first objects worn by man for its talismanic powers, is enshrined in Greek Mythology and is prized for its beauty and powers. Amber is sometimes found with inclusions of insects and plants.
Amber is found: All amber stocked by Adorn Jewels is imported from Poland and is genuine. There are large reserves on the seabed of the Baltic. After heavy storms amber is washed onto the shores of the beaches.
Amber is imitated: Resin and yellow glass imitate Amber. True ancient Baltic Amber is also imitated by tree sap recently produced in New Zealand. It is usually less expensive and if this new produce is rubbed it has a very distinctive pine smell.
